Tafu, the midtown tea and dessert spot where I sought salvation during those crazy tax season hours, closes this Friday forever. And this is just after Amai closed yesterday!
Tafu and Amai are both very similar spots: tea-focused with Japanese inspired sweets. It is sad to see both go in a time period so close to one another. What is happening??? :[
How much did I love Tafu? A lot. I even have a Flickr Set devoted to it!
Here's what I'll miss:

Hot matcha lattes topped with chocolate or...

...kuromitsu syrup...

...hojicha roll cakes...the matcha one too!

Daifukus with a smidgen of cream tucked in the very middle. See an innards shot here...

...along with delicate cheesecakes in similar tea flavours. The genmaicha was my favourite.

I'll miss afternoon tea break with co-workers...

...when you "eat-in", they arrange your order on little trays. Grab a seat along the count and munch away! :) I love doing this on super rainy days.

The tea infused chocolates were always a great pick-me-up late in the night.

But the biggest bummer of all is that we can no longer get Mitzy's macarons there :[

That was the real highlight of Tafu.
I'll be swinging by a few times this week...Kyotofu supplies many of the bakeds good and one could easily head to Hells Kitchen to get it straight from the source...but you won't be able to find those hot matcha lattes anywhere else.

This is horrible news! Tafu gave me my best cup of green tea ever. It was their premium tea - came with a sand timer and a special tea pot with instructions for brewing. All on a mini tray. Very cute. What a shame!
It's the economy I tell you. Tafu is too high end for times right now, but it's so sad to see it go. The staffs are so courteous and helpful. Only went there once, but yes, a bit pricey.
:( So many places are closing in London too but it's equally sad to hear of so many closing in New York. Sigh...their stuff looked tasty!
Oh, how sad, especially because of the macarons! Thank you so much for reporting. I'll be sure to stop by soon.
aw boo! sorry to hear this!
wow, the economy is really wrecking havoc. it's a shame they can't wait it out a few more months to see if the economy starts to level off..
wow, so sad, first pong/batch(which I never got to try!) and now tafu(tried once). I think I gotta stop by this week too.
Nooo! I went there when I was in the city earlier this month and was totally looking forward to spending many afternoons there when I move for school. I hope Mitzy can find somewhere else to sell her macarons, because they are absolutely magical. And I hope I can find another place to get my serious afternoon tea fix.
this is so sad.
Just tried to go and it was already closed.
they had the best macaroons i've had in nyc...>_< now i need to begin my search for perfect macaroons again.
I went last week anticipating the usual blissful experience just to find Tafu's windows papered over.... I loved how they brewed their green tea by combining first, second, and third brews of the same leaves so all the different aspects of the tea got mixed together.
